#36 – On Partisan Nutrition Conversations and Aggressive “Wellness” Marketing with John O’Connor

We know it’s not polite to discuss politics, money or religion at the dinner table, but is it now taboo to discuss dinner at the dinner table? Has anyone noticed that our nutrition conversations have become a touch, well, partisan?

In this episode John discusses the carnivore diet and how aggressive marketing often outpaces the science behind extreme diets. We get into the urea cycle, the system the body uses to rid itself of waste after metabolizing protein, MTHFR, blood type diets and more.

Show notes:

Consider this Tweet from Dr. Paul Saladino, a carnivore diet advocate, comparing his physique to well known Vegan doctor, Dr. Michael Gregor. Do appeals to the vanity culture and body shaming help advance the cause of greater public health?

In our view, no. There is room for all body types in the health and wellness community.

In fairness, we have also been critical of overly aggressive Vegan marketing. See our Game Changers movie review for more.
