Our SMS, Phone, and Texting Policy

By providing your phone number through our website contact form or by calling Gene Food directly, you are opting in to receive SMS messages from us. These messages may include updates, promotional offers, and other relevant information. Message frequency may vary. Your consent to receive SMS messages is not a condition of purchase. You can opt out of receiving SMS messages at any time by replying “STOP” to any message you receive from us.

We collect, use, and disclose your phone number solely for the purpose of sending SMS messages and to improve our services. Your phone number will not be shared with third parties, except as required by law or as necessary to provide the SMS service. For any questions or concerns, please contact us at [email protected].

How Do We Protect Your Information?

We use SSL encryption to protect your personal information online, and we take several steps to protect your personal information in our systems. Access to your personal information is restricted. Only employees who need access to your personal information to perform a specific job are granted access. We host our systems on Amazon Web Services (AWS), a leading cloud infrastructure provider that maintains industry-standard physical and network security controls for its data centers. We believe AWS’s security procedures are adequate for the nature of our services.

While we use industry-standard precautions to safeguard your personal information, we cannot guarantee complete security. Complete security does not exist anywhere online or offline.

After a transaction, your private payment information (credit card numbers, etc.) will not be stored on our servers.

Do We Use Cookies?

Yes. Cookies are small files that a site or its service provider transfers to your computer’s hard drive through your web browser (if you allow) that enable the site’s or service provider’s systems to recognize your browser and capture and remember certain information.

We use cookies to help us remember and process items in your shopping cart, understand and save your preferences for future visits, and compile aggregate data about site traffic and site interaction so we can offer better experiences and tools in the future. We may contract with third-party service providers to assist us in better understanding our site visitors. These service providers are not permitted to use the information collected on our behalf except to help us conduct and improve our business.

You can choose to have your computer warn you each time a cookie is being sent, or you can turn off all cookies via your browser settings. Like most websites, if you turn cookies off, some of our services may not function properly. However, you can still place orders by contacting customer service.

Do We Disclose Any Information to Outside Parties?

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer to outside parties your personally identifiable information, except in the following circumstances:

  • Service providers: trusted third parties who assist us in operating our website, conducting our business, or servicing you (such as our CLIA-certified lab partner, payment processors, hosting providers, email providers, and analytics providers), under agreements that require them to keep your information confidential and use it only for the purposes we specify.
  • Research partners, with your consent: if you consent to participate in Gene Food Research, your de-identified genetic, environmental, self-reported, and linked biometric data may be shared with academic and commercial research partners for scientific research, as described in our Research Consent Document. Registration Information is never shared with research partners.
  • Business transfers: in the event that Gene Food undergoes a business transition — including a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, sale of all or substantially all of its assets, or bankruptcy — your information may be transferred to the acquiring, successor, or surviving entity as part of the transaction. Any such entity will be bound by a privacy policy providing substantially similar protections to this one, or, for research cohort data, by the terms of your Research Consent.
  • Legal compliance: we may release information when we believe release is appropriate to comply with the law, enforce our site policies, or protect the rights, property, or safety of Gene Food, our users, or others.

We may share de-identified, aggregated information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you for analytics, business reporting, or to communicate general information about our user base.

Occasionally, at our discretion, we may include or offer third-party products or services on our website. These third-party sites have separate and independent privacy policies. We therefore have no responsibility or liability for the content and activities of these linked sites. Nonetheless, we seek to protect the integrity of our site and welcome feedback about these sites.
