Product overview

The Watts Premier 531417 RO Pure Plus 4 Stage Reverse Osmosis System is a space-saving, advanced water filtration with a compact, under-sink design and a 3-gallon storage tank. This makes it ideal for daily use and maintenance is incredibly convenient. You can change the filters with the push of a button and can easily access check-valves without having to don your waterproofs and prepare to get messy.

The complete system provides all of the installation fittings and fixtures, including tubing, a 3-gallon storage tank and shut-off valve, the 4-stage filtration system (including four filters), and a Watts Brushed Nickel Air Gap Faucet.

The Watts Premier Reverse Osmosis System has four stages of filtration. This enables it to filter out sediment, particulate, chlorine, taste and odor, sodium, chromium, arsenic, copper, lead, cysts, giardia, VOCs (including herbicides, pesticides, and trihalomethanes [THMs], methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE), cryptosporidium, atrazine, benzene, lindane and many other contaminants.

The RO Pure Plus four filtration stages comprise:

Stage 1 – A 5 Micron Sediment Filter traps sediment and other particles like dirt, silt and rust which affect the taste and appearance of your water.

Stage 2 – A 5 Micron Pre-Carbon Block Filter reducing Chlorine, Chloramines and other materials that cause bad taste and odor.

Stage 3 – A 50 GPD Semipermeable Membrane removes TDS, Sodium and a wide range of contaminants such as Chromium, Arsenic, Copper, Lead as well as Cysts, such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium.

Stage 4 – A high quality VOC (Volatile Organic Chemical) Carbon Block Final Polishing Filter after the water storage tank to remove MTBE’s, Atraine, Benene, Chloroform, Lindane and other VOC’s from your drinking water.

This impressive system is certified by WQA to NSF/ANSI Standard 58 and Standard 372 (lead-free). This makes it one of the best systems around and the top recommendation for a home water filtration system that is compact, effective, and relatively affordable. This system is an upgrade from the 531411 system which had a regular 5-Micron Carbon Post Filter. The 531417 system has a Premium high capacity carbon block formulated specifically for the reduction of VOCs and provides 50 gallons per day of crystal-clear water.

This system has a maximum operating pressure of 100 psi (minimum 40 psi) and is compatible with the Watts Premier ZeroWaste® Reverse Osmosis Retrofit Kit, which enables you to divert waste water into the hot water supply (away from drinking water) and reduce water waste. You may then want to install a shower water filter, however.

The Watts Premier RO system is easy to install, doesn’t have unnecessary tube connections to cause confusion or more potential for problems, and the cartridges have double o-rings, so they won’t leak. This package includes a brushed nickel, monitored, top mount twist, air-gap faucet and a 3 gallon storage tank and is compact, so is a great option if you have minimal under-sink space.

One thing to note, if you want to use this system with a garbage disposal unit, you’ll need an extra part from Watts Premier. The drain line installation kit (P/N 164020, which costs around $15) prevents the disposal unit from forcing refuse into the RO drain line, which would otherwise result in a blockage.

Watts Premier RO Pure Plus vs. iSpring RCC7 and Aquasana OptimH2O

The Watts Premier is an excellent mid-level choice for an RO system and is compatible with the ZeroWaste® RO Retrofit Kit, helping you to conserve water. As a compact unit, it’s a good option if space is a concern. However, the iSpring RCC7 is more economical, arguably just as effective, and has a higher capacity, while the Aquasana OptimH2O is clearly best in class for performance, customer service, and certifications.
