This induction cooktop by Smeg comes with 9 power levels for each zone, all operated using a simple slide touch control panel. You can set an individual timer for each zone. The Smeg SIMU530B includes 4 “full-power” cook zones: two 7.5” 1800W (2500W with booster) on the left; a front central 6” 1200W (2000W with booster) element; and a large 11” back right 2500W (3700W with booster) element. The two left zones can be joined together to create an extended cooking zone with booster available to crank out 4000W.

Where Smeg really shine, however, is in their safety, sustainability, and environmental policies. The Italian company strongly adheres to and aims to exceed European safety standards for eco-friendly manufacturing practices. The company’s headquarters has won awards for its environmentally-friendly design and policies, which include not building on more than 30-33% of the site, so as to foster habitat conservation (the company also planted more than 4,000 plants).

In addition, Smeg are very selective in all the components and materials that go into their products, choosing steel, glass, aluminum and brass, where possible, as these can be easily recycled.

Smeg also fully complies with the EU directives RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances), and REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation, and Restriction of Chemical Substances), which lay out strict restrictions on the use of hazardous materials and substances such as lead, cadmium, mercury, chromium VI, polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs), and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), and regulate the handling of chemical substances to ensure that human health and the environment are protected to the fullest extent.

Smeg are also committed to choosing eco-compatible suppliers and use recyclable packaging, and also take steps to make their transport/haulage more environmentally friendly. They’re committed to further reducing water consumption, emissions, electricity, and packaging materials and have policies in place for improved waste management systems.

On top of all these great steps, Smeg produce kitchen appliances with high performance and low energy consumption top of mind. And, they have their own Quality, Health, Safety & Environment (QHSE) policy, which fully complies with UNI EN ISO 9001, UNI EN ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001 standards. EU directive UNI EN ISO 14001 outlines the requirements for the adoption of an environmental management system, helping a company draft corporate policy on eco-sustainability and pollution, specifically looking at optimizing the use of energy and natural resources, and quality systems for waste disposal.

Basically, if you’re looking for an eco-friendly induction stovetop, it’s hard to beat Smeg. And, if you’re looking for an eco-friendly wall oven and an induction cooktop, consider this fantastic package deal!

Smeg SIMU530B vs. GE Profile vs. Bosch 800

The Smeg SIMU530B is a fantastic 30-inch induction stovetop from a company with a solid record for eco-friendliness and reliability. As this model offers much the same as the GE Profile and the Bosch 800, this is our top pick for the ecoHome directory. The Smeg even offers a little more firepower than the Bosch, with a 4000W booster element (vs 3700W) available in the extended cooking zone. The Bosch 800 is the only model to feature their innovative PowerMove® technology for ease of use, however.
